(c) 1996 hand’solo records

before i moved to toronto in 1996, i knew next to nothing about the halifax hip-hop scene. my exposure was limited to a couple of videos i’d seen on muchmusic (hip club groove, mc j and cool g), and a stinkin’ rich cassette a nova scotian flatmate of mine had given me. in toronto, i hooked up with mackenzie (from hip club), who had recently relocated from the east coast. fast friends, he introduced me to the east coast scene… and tom quinlan, another east coast-toronto transplant (from fredericton, i believe), who had just released this compilation of halifax hip-hop. ten years later, it serves as a pretty good time capsule of the scene in it’s infancy…

Good shit. This blog fucking rules!

  2. I’m not actually from out east at all… I just discovered the music of Hip Club Groove and Stinkin’ Rich and delved deep into the scene.

Most of my family moved out east at some point after that…

Still, thanks for posting this compilation. It’s out of print and more people deserve to hear it.
